What if I Don’t Feel Sad about my Separation?

Published by dineane under Uncategorized Edit This

In the last year of my first marriage, I fantisized almost daily for several months about arriving home to find the cops waiting to tell me that my ex had died in an accident. It took me a long time to realize there was a better option - to leave!

Ironically, I was for the most part content with my first marriage. I just knew he wasn’t. He wanted so much more than I could give him. I wasn’t making him happy, and it felt like that was all he wanted from me.

I was a typical “walk-away wife.” I plotted and planned for about six months after I had decided it was never going to work. I got my ducks in a row and then left. And for me there was no turning back.I remember telling mutual friends here and there that my first husband and I had separated. “I’m so sorry to hear that,” they would respond, and I remember thinking “I’m not!” My divorce was absolutely a relief and not a fresh hurt.

Don’t feel guilty if you are not depressed about the end of your marriage. Enjoy your progress as you start a new life, but if you do experience a moment here and there of pain, just know it’s normal and don’t let it set you back too much.

Congratulations on moving along in your life!
