Marriage Undone

I’ve never watched Jon & Kate Plus 8, but I was surprised how many members of my divorce/separated support group had never even heard of them. If you watch t.v. at all, it has been hard to miss the rumors about Jon’s alleged affair, or Kate’s advice for the “Octomom,”  Nadya Suleman.

I wish tonight’s big announcement would be a surprise, but “news” sources seem to agree that the couple with twins and sextuplets and a reality t.v. show on TLC are on the verge of separation. Jon is apparently apartment shopping in NYC.

While this is not the kind of reality t.v. I typically watch (I’m more of a Big Brother fan), I am planning to tune in tonight. Chalk it up to my fascination with recovery from separation/divorce, and with marriages that survive affairs. If there’s no surprise, maybe the future of the show will reveal one. Maybe Jon & Kate will set a successful co-parenting example for their television audience.

A girl can dream, right?
